Holiday makers can spend their days relaxing on the beach, but there are also a wide range of activities including fishing, sports, cycling, night-clubbing, golf, watersports and excursions on the river and inland including birdwatching.Restaurants
There are a large number of first class reputable restaurants with quality chefs from around the world producing a wide ranging cuisine. The restaurants range from formal gourmet dining to casual beach bars with reasonable prices.The Gambia is famous for its seafood.. Local delecacies include: Atlantic Prawns, Barracuda, Butterfish, Ladyfish, Lobster and Snapper. There is also an abundance of fruit with vegetarians being well catered for.
Currency
The Gambian currency is the Dalasi which during summer 2009 was around 41D to the UK pound. This can fluctuate. The best exchange rates are found in the Gambia. The cost of living is much lower than the UK making your money go much further.Out and about
There is a good road infrastructure within the Gambia but if you are more adventurous and want to get off the beaten track there is plenty of opportunity. Public transport is by bus or bush taxi. Look for the green tourist taxis or yellow and green bush taxis; they are very good value.Shopping
Best value goods are wood carvings, handcrafted leather and cloth, African music, sand paintings and batik pictures. Anything can be obtained from shoes to souveniers and the Gambian taylors have an excellent reputation for making clothes at a reasonable price. Please don't be afraid to get into the spirit of the moment by bargaining for everything.If you want a genuine African shopping experience, head for the markets in Serrekunda and Banjul.
